Donna Boudreaux, Ph.D.

Licensed Psychologist

Dr. Boudreaux is a licensed psychologist and a Louisiana certified regular and special education teacher. She began her professional career as a teacher, spending seven years in special education teaching children with academic and behavioral struggles. She earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in elementary and special education, with a specialization in behavioral disorders. Teaching children with unique needs and challenges is what motivated her to return to school and pursue her doctorate in psychology. As a teacher, she was concerned that her students were being diagnosed by psychologists who didn’t take the time to get to know them and who were providing reports which didn’t reflect the total child. Wanting to ensure accurate and thorough evaluations, she decided to change her career path and return to college as a full-time student.

After completing her education and her clinical psychology internship, Dr. Boudreaux opened her first private practice in Pensacola, Florida. She later branched out with additional offices in Fort Walton and Destin. It was there that she adopted her son and daughter and began devoting most of her time and attention to parenting. When her own children were diagnosed with attention problems, her prior education and professional experience served her well, and she worked hard to ensure that they had the resources and the support they needed to succeed. Despite her background and experience, the path was not easy. Homework often took three to four hours a night and required her continual time and attention. School meetings often ended in tears, leaving her feeling inadequate and unsupported.

In 2009, Dr. Boudreaux relocated to Lafayette, Louisiana. She returned to teaching while she pursued psychology licensure locally. She taught fifth- and sixth-graders in a parochial school setting and had the unique opportunity to teach her own children. Observing them firsthand in the classroom gave her deeper insight into their daily experiences and a better understanding of the challenges they faced in school.

Dr. Boudreaux has practiced as a psychologist in Louisiana since 2013. She has always specialized in helping children with school-related problems, anxiety, and high-functioning autism. She owned and operated a blended-learning program from 2016 to 2019. The Learning Place, as it was called, specialized in educating middle and high school students who struggled academically and/or with peer relationships in the traditional school setting. Running the program gave her the opportunity to learn more about virtual learning and its pros and cons.

Dr. Boudreaux continues to run her private practice in Youngsville, Louisiana, just outside the city of Lafayette. She refers to herself as a “one-man show” doing all of her own scheduling, billing, and testing. When parents reach out to her to discuss their concerns, they always speak with her personally. The best part of her work is having the opportunity to get to know the children entrusted to her and making a positive difference in their lives.
